Coleman has always produced a wide variety of products that are aimed at the camping and recreational markets.

Some popular outdoor products they have manufactured include the Coleman Lantern, sleeping bags, tents, coolers and camping tools which are vital for an awesome outdoor experience.

Characteristics of the Coleman Cabin Tent

Types – The Coleman Cabin Tent comes in 3 types: (1) the 4-person Tent; (2) the 6-person Tent and (3) the 10-person Dark Room Cabin Tent.

Material – The tent is mainly made from 150D Polyester and taped seams. The fact that the tent is made from 150 Denier polyester means the fabric will be thick and strong. 150D Polyester is great for dealing with excessive stress and long exposure to sun and other elements.

Where is it made – This Tent is made in the United States and its imported too.

Size – For the 4-person tent, the tent measures around 8 feet x 7 feet while the center height is 4 foot (11 inches).

For the 6-person tent, the tent measures around 10 feet x 9 feet with a center height of 6 foot.

The 10-person tent measures around 14 feet x 10 feet with a center height of 6 foot (7 inches). You will be able to fit 4 queen-sized beds with this.

Product Dimension – The4-person tent has a product dimension of 96 inches x 84 inches x 59 inches.

The 6-person tent has a product dimension of 120 inches x 108 inches x 72 inches.

For the 10-person tent, it has a product dimension of 168 inches x 120 inches x 79 inches.

Weight – The 4-person tent has a weight of 18 pounds.

The 6-person tent weighs 24.5 pounds.

For the 10-person tent, it weighs 22.2 pounds.

Features of the Coleman Cabin Tent

Set it up instantly – The instant tent is capable of setting up in just 1 minute. This is possible because there are pre attached poles where you can just extend and secure when setting up the tent. This allows a quicker and simple setup. All you have to do is unfold the tent, extend the poles and secure them.

With the preassembled poles you can have your tent set up in around 1 minute (or 2 minutes if you are less familiar with how to set it up), leaving you more time to enjoy the outdoors.

As for taking it down, you’ll need around 5 minutes to get it stuffed into the carrying bag.

Spacious – This tent has a spacious interior where you can place 1 queen-sized airbed.

Keeps you Dry – The tent is equipped with Coleman’s Weathertec system which contains several important features such as having weather-resistant fabric. The Weaethertec system also encompasses the tub-like floors with patented corner welds and covered seams which can effectively keep water out.

The coated polyester fabric, anti-wicking thread and carefully designed zippers are there to keep you dry.

Furthermore, the patented welded floors and inverted seams can help keep you dry as well.

Durable Materials – Besides being made from 150D polyester, the tent also comes with Double-thick, rugged Polyguard 2X™ tent fabric which aids in preventing wear and tear especially when you are on a challenging terrain.

Integrated Vented Rainfly – With the Integrated vented rainfly, you can get extra airflow without needing additional assembly. It will give you added protection from the rain too!

Darkroom Tent NOTE: Please take note that the Coleman Darkroom™ Tent feature is only available if you buy the Coleman cabin tent for 10-persons.

The Coleman Darkroom™ Tent feature is capable of blocking 90% of sunlight which can also reduce the amount of heat in the tent.

Since the Darkroom™ technology is capable of blocking 90% of the sunlight, you will be able to get some sleep despite the sun is still up.

Also, it’s proven that this technology can reduce temperature buildup around 10%.

Convenient Storage – When you purchase the tent, it comes with an expandable carrying bag where you can store the tent.  This makes it much more convenient to carry the tent from point A to point B as well.

Warning

Limited Windows – There are a limited amount of windows present on the tent which means you will only be able to enjoy the view at the place where there is a window. Without windows at all sides, you can’t enjoy the view from all angles.

Add a Sealer – The tent itself should be waterproof but you can add a seam sealer just in case there are manufacturing defects which messes with the waterproof ability.

Especially in heavy rain, the tent may not be able to keep out all of the rain water – and the sealer may make a lot of difference.

My Thoughts

Great for easy set-up – It’s really easy to set-up and take down the tent where setting up the tent is manageable by one person. As for taking down the tent, you can do it with 1 person but its best to have 2 persons so that the other person can help stuff the tent into the carrying case.

Really spacious – If you love spacious tents, you’re in luck. With this tent, you will be able to place a queen air mattress. With this much space, you’ll feel like royalty.

Sturdy – Even when there’s a heavy rain or light thunderstorm, the tent will be able to remain safe and sound on the ground. At most, there will be a bit of dew on the interior walls of the tent.

If you are going to a place that frequently has thunderstorms, this tent will able to brave that storm and remain standing.

Order all the necessary items – When you purchase this tent, it would be great if you can also purchase the tent seam sealer and rain fly. This will help ensure that you won’t get affected by external elements.

Excellent for solo camping – The tent is great if you are going for solo camping or for a 2-person camping trip. Since the tent is really easy to set-up, this makes it much easier for you to set it up and dry it when you are at home.

Great Ventilation – Even when it’s raining and with the fly, the ventilation on the tent is still great! It has 2 windows on the front, 2 large windows on the sides and there’s even a vent on the top for ventilation.

Pros

  • Sets up instantly
  • Has excellent air ventilation
  • Sturdy tent

Cons

  • Not fully waterproof

2. ALPS Mountaineering Lynx Instant Tent

ALPS Mountaineering Lynx Tent

Company Overview – ALPS Mountaineering is a company that focuses on manufacturing camping gear including tents, backpacks and sleeping bags.

The company was founded by Dennis Brune in 1993. Currently, ALPS have manufactured four popular brands including ALPS Moutnaineering, ALPS OutdoorZ, Browning Camping and Cedar Ridge (their budget line).

Using these brands, ALPS Mountaineering manufactures a range of outdoor products including tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, air mattresses and even camping furniture’s.

Characteristics of the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx Tent

Material – The tent is made from numerous qualities materials including:

Polyester fly – The 75-denier 185T polyester fly with 1500mm coating which resists UV damage and stays stretched.

Floor – The 75-denier 185T polyester taffeta floor also has 2000mm coating to keep the ground moisture out from the tent.

Poles – It’s made from 7000 series aluminum poles (sturdy aluminum).

Zippers – The zippers are extra large #8 zippers.

Tent in General – The tent generally is made from high-quality polyester material which is highly durable.

Size – The base size is 2’8 x 7’6, while the center height is 36”.

Colors – The tent comes in 3 different colors including Blue/Green, Clay/Rust and Gray/Navy.

Weight – The tent weighs 4 lbs. 1 Oz. The minimum weight is 3 lbs. 5 oz.

If you want the specifics on the weight for each of the item, you can check out this list:

Tent – 623g (21.96 ounces), Rainfly – 541g (19.08 ounces), Poles – 448.1g (15.81 ounces), Stakes (x 10) – 165g (5.82 ounces), Carry bag – 64.3g (2.27 ounces), Guy Ropes – 38g (1.34 ounces), Shelf – 17.5g (0.62 ounces), Pole bag – 14.2g (0.5 ounces), Stake bag – 10.5g (0.37 ounces) and Patches – 9.8g (0.35 ounces).

If you find that the tent is a bit heavy to carry around, you can choose to throw the steel stakes that comes with the tent and purchase separate lightweight aluminum stakes.

Ideally, you’ll need 3 pieces of such stakes – 1 for the vestibules and 2 for the corners of the tent.

Types – For this review, I’ll look at particularly the 1-person tent and I’ll explain the characteristics of the 1-person tent.

You can click here if you want to check out the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 2-Person Tent.

There’s even the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 3-Person Tent and 4-Person tent as well.

Features of the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx Tent

Easy Set-Up – You won’t feel frustrated when attempting to assembling tents from the Lynx tent series.

The tent has a detached aluminum two-pole design which is really easy to setup.

You’ll be able to set up the tent or take it down under 120 seconds. You’ll be able to disassemble it in minutes.

All you have to do is to stick the two folding aluminium poles on the group, put on the tent clips and rain fly clips on the corners. Unlike most 1-preson tents that require you to setup extra poles, these 2 X-shaped poles are really quick and easy to setup.

Polyester Tent Fly – The tent comes with a Polyester Tent Fly which is water-resistant and helps prevent UV damage. Furthermore, this helps add some extra storage space too.

You can utilize the rain fly to help keep moisture out. The vestibule that comes with the fly will be pretty handy as well where you’ll be able to store your boots in them and slip them on when you get out of your tent.

Also, the rain fly is really durable, and quality sealed too. There are adjustable tension straps for you to quickly setup and remove the rain fly.

Filled with Functionalities – The Lynx 1-Person Tent is fully equipped with all the important features such as the zippers, some storage pockets, gear loft, stakes and guy ropes (a rope fixed to the ground to secure the tent).

Waterproof – The tent is well-waterproofed. However, I would recommend that you get the tent footprint which helps ensure that moisture won’t come through the floor.

There are two vents on top of the tent which helps reduce condensation.

After a few months, I would recommend seam sealing the tent again to help ensure that not a single drop of water gets inside. If done properly, even after a heavy downpour, the water will build up underneath the tent which cause the floor to feel like a waterbed but not a single drop will go inside the tent.

If your clothes get wet, one idea you can explore is to tie a string on the four loops on top of your tent so that you can hang your clothes to get them dry.

If you want to purchase a floor saver to go with the tent, you can click on this link here.

Stash Pockets – The tent comes with three mesh stash pockets that can store your items in.

One stash pocket is suspended above the head area and its removable.

Mesh Walls – Both sides of the walls and the doorway are mesh, which is excellent for ventilation which is helpful during the summer.

Do note that the tent is not made with 100% mesh wall so you can get good insulation for winter as well.

Warning

Not for Standing – In this tent, you won’t be able to stand upright because the center height is not tall enough for you to stand. If you are 6 feet, you may even have to sit hunched over to take off your shoes as you enter the tent.

It is roomy enough for one preson to sleep comfortably in most sleeping positions.

Thin Floor – The floor is made from materials that are pretty thin. I’ll definitely recommend adding floor savers and footprints so that the tent will be more durable.

My Thoughts

Sturdy – Although you are camping in windy conditions such as winds blowing to around 10 miles per hour, the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1-person tent will be able to hold-up really well.

So if you are going for a backpacking trip in the mountains with high winds, I would highly recommend getting this tent.

Keeps you warm throughout the night – The tent is pretty small, which means you’ll be able to heat-up the tent with your body temperature really effectively too. Make sure you get all the necessary tools to keep yourself warm and cozy such as a quilt and a blanket.

Extremely Versatile (Great for all seasons) – If you are looking for a camping tent that you can bring to face the desert heat or a place filled with snow, the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1-Person Tent is THE tent for you to purchase.

Even when you are camping in the summer with high temperature or during fall in the cold windy night, you’ll be able to remain sleeping comfortably. It’ll be able to keep snow out effectively too.

Even if you are hit with strong wind, heavy rain or a hail storm, the tent will hold up really well. You’ll remain comfortable and dry in the tent.

Durable – Despite after years of use, you’ll be surprised at how well the tent will hold up despite using it loads of time.

Even if you forgot to put up your footprint, the ground would only do minimal damage to the base of the tent.

Best 1-preson tent – Rarely, there’ll be an excellent 1-person tent in the market. Although ALPS Mountaineering do provide you the option to purchase either the 2-person, 3-person or 4-person options, this tent is one of the BEST 1 person camping tent you’ll be able to find in the market. It’ll have space for you to rest and put some gears.

You’ll have enough room to sleep and 1 vestibule to store your gears or food.

Great for Hunting Trips – If you plan to go for a hunting trip, this tent is definitely one of the better tents you will be able to find. Even if you are faced with heavy rain, you and your gears will remain dry in the tent. If you are going for a hunt alone and want to keep things lightweight, the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1-Person Tent will be the option for you!

Best Bang for the Buck – For the price you are paying, you’ll be amazed at the quality you’ll be getting. Most 1-person backpacking tent with this decent quality usually require you to fork out at least $200 to $500.

It’s really sturdy and it sets up really easily too. At this price point, it’s really a no brainer to get this tent. Some tents with this quality easily cost up to $400. Its definitely a great tent for the money!

Great for Hikes – The ALPS Mountaineering Lynx Tentis lightweight enough for you to consider bringing around for your hiking trip. It sets up really and disassembles really easily too which is a pluspoint.

Do note that you may be able to find more lightweight tents, but I would choose this easy to setup tent which weighs extra 1 to 2 pounds more as compared to a lighter tent.

Suitable for Backpacking Trips – The tent is only 3.75 lbs, which is really lightweight. The tent is able to compress down to a suitable size where you can stack it on top of your backpack and carry it around. You’ll be kept dry when it rains and you can even face windy terrains too.

Pros

  • Best Bang for the Buck
  • Durable
  • Great Temperature Regulation
  • Great Temperature Regulation

Cons

  • Not for Standing
  • Thin Floor

3. Coleman Sundome Instant Setup Tent

Coleman Sundome Tent

Company Overview – I gave a brief company overview when reviewing the Coleman Cabin Tent so you can check out the review above to read more about the company overview.

The Coleman Sundome Tent is one of Coleman’s best sellers, of course with various reasons which we will explore further.

Characteristics of the Coleman Sundome Instant Setup Tent

Material – The tent is mainly made from polyester materials. The tent materials seem to be really high-quality and will be able to hold-up well for years if you take care of it.

The floor is made from 1000D Polyethylene. It’s a heavyduty tarp material that will be able to last.

Also, it comes with 5 mm fiberglass poles.

Size – The Coleman Sundome Tent comes in 4 sizes: (1) 2-person tent, (2) 3-person tent, (3) 4-person tent and (4) 6-preson tent.

Measurement – The tent measures around 7 feet x 5 feet and has a 4-foot 11 inches center height.

Colors – There are 2 colors you can choose – Navy/ Grey or Green.

Weight – The tent weighs around 7 pounds.

Product Dimension – The Coleman Sundome tent has a product dimension of 84 inches x 60 inches x 48 inches.

Setup Type – The tent has a conventional setup type.

Features of the Coleman Sundome Tent

Easy set-up – Although the estimated set-up time isn’t as spectacular as the above 2 tents, the Coleman Sundome Tent is still pretty decent where you’ll be able to setup the tent in 10 minutes. It’s considered really easy to setup.

You’ll be able to setup the tent by yourself. If it’s your first time setting up the tent, you may take around 10 – 15 minutes to set up the tent. You don’t really need to look at the instructions to setup the tent too. If you’re a veteran camper, you may be able to set it up in 5 minutes.

A valid comparison would be huge 6 – 8 persons tents that usually takes 30 to 45 minutes just for you to set up. Since you’ll be able to set-up the Coleman Sundome Tent in 10 minutes, it’s considered as one of the easiest tents to set up yourself.

All you need is two poles to put the tent up and one extra pole to hold the rainfly up. Setting the tent up would be considered a breeze.

Keeping the tent is really easy too. Just fold it in half twice, then fold it into thirds and roll it up. It should easily fit into the bag too.

Sturdy Frame – The Dome tent has a sturdy frame that is capable of withstanding up to 35+ mph of winds.

WeatherTec System – The Coleman Sundome Tent is equipped with Coleman’s WeatherTec system where the tent has patented welded floors and inverted seams to keep you dry.

This means that your body and your gear will stay dry in the tent despite a heavy downpour.

Enhanced Ventilation – The tent comes equipped with large windows and ground vents where it will be able to push the warm air up and eventually push it outside the tent so that you can remain cool and comfortable when you’re in the tent.

The ground/ floor vent is located near the rear of the tent which improves the tent’s airflow.

Breathable – Even after putting on the rain fly and a tarp, the tent is still very breathable. Since the tent is equipped with enhanced ventilation, it’ll do wonders.

Mesh Panels – The tent also comes with two huge mesh panels on the top of the tent, which helps improve the ventilation in the tent.

I would recommend covering the mesh panels with tarp when it rains to prevent rainwater from coming in.

Storage Pockets – The Coleman Sundome Tents come with mesh pockets that are sewn into the tent’s walls. You’ll be able to store small-sized essential items. You’ll be able to easily reach for them when you need them too.

E-Port – The tent comes with an E-Port which allows you to easily access electrical power when you’re inside your tent. Just bring an extension cord and you’ll have enough plugs for your electronic device.

This means that cords will be accessible as the tent has a zippered panel on the front corner which allows you to pull an extension cord into the tent.

Waterproof – This tent is highly waterproof. Even if you go camping at an area that often rain cats and dogs, all of the rainwater will at most form a puddle outside the tent.

Even without putting any type of sealant, the tent will still be able to keep you dry. (but I wouldn’t recommend not adding any!) Compared to most tents you have came across, you’ll be surprised at how waterproof this tent is.

If you want to remain dry in any storm, you can get a big tarp to put over the tent and put a dust sheet at the ground to protect the bottom part of the tent.

Also, I would recommend putting extra caution in sealing the area around the electrical port zipper.

Screens – The tent has a large screen panel on the ceiling area. This means you’ll be able to enjoy the view when there’s no rain fly on.

Center “Ring” – There is a little “ring” that is located at the center of the ceiling where you can hang your tent lights.

Warning

Not Too Spacious – If you purchased the 4-person Coleman Sundome tent, although you will be able to fit 2 queen sized air mattresses and have 4 adults sleep in this tent, there will be little space left in the tent. I would recommend that 2 or 3 person (max) sleeps in the tent while the other remaining space are left for gears.

Cheap Stakes – The stakes that comes with this tent isn’t that durable. They are basically a set of stakes which are really skinny and would not be able to take a beating. If the ground is too hard, the stakes may bend easily.

It would be better if you can spend extra cash to get some stakes which are fat and sturdy.

Not for Cold Weather – The tent has mesh ceilings which would allow gusts of wind to go through.

If you are planning to camp anywhere with temperature below 10 Fahrenheit, I would recommend looking for another tent. Try to look for something that has a lower ceiling and is capable of keeping in the heat.

Warranty

There’s a 1-year limited warranty that comes with the tent.

My Thoughts

Suitable for warm weather – This tent is called ‘Sundome Tents’ because it is made for warm-weather adventures.

It has mesh walls which allows wind to go through. Also, there are large breathable mesh hole on the back of the tent too.

Great for Backpacking – The tent is suitable for backpacking because the tent is solid. Also, it only weighs 7 pounds (around 3.18 kg).

It’s really easy to pack it in the bag too. Just fold it in half long ways, then in third longways, then roll. You’ll be able to stuff it into the bag in no time.

The carry bag comes with a whole range of items that prepares you for camping too such as the tent, poles, rain fly, ground stakes, door mat and a guide.

Tall Enough to Stand in – The tent has a 4-foot 11 inches center height, where the tent is tall enough for you to stand in. Even if you are 6 feet tall, you’ll be able to stand up in the tent.

Value for the Money – By only spending a minimal amount of money, you’ll be able to get the Coleman Sundome Tent which is superior in terms of quality and features than most tents which are more expensive.

If you are low on budget and you’re looking for a tent with decent quality, this tent would be one of the best options in the market.

Enjoy the View to the Fullest – The tent comes with a large screen panel on the ceiling which allows you to have a great view. Plus, there’s even an additional window and screen on the door where you’ll be able to have an extra view (which also allows for better airflow too).

Sturdy – The Coleman Sundome Tent will be able to face a thunderstorm and still remain intact. Even when the tent is hit by big wind, the tent would at most move around a bit, but it’ll remain in place.

Keeps you Dry – The tent has really good waterproof qualities. Even after a heavy downpour, the water will be beading up outside the tent and will run off the rain fly.

Great for Family Camping – If you like to go out camping with your family during the weekends, the Coleman Sundome Tent would be a great option. It is pretty spacious, its made from solid materials and it’s really sturdy too. You’ll feel cool and safe in this tent.

Pros

  • Extremely Durable
  • Anti-Bacterial
  • Fairly priced
  • Temperature Regulation

Cons

  • Okay Breathability

4.  Coleman 2-Person Instant Pop-Up Tent

Here’s another quality-tent which is extremely easy to set-up manufactured by Coleman. You can bet that this is the easiest tent to set up by yourself.

Characteristics of the Coleman 2-Person Instant Pop-Up Tent

Material – For the tent fly, it uses the 185T 68D polyester fly which is both fire and water resistant.

Size – The tent has a base which measures 7 feet 6 inches x 4 feet 5 inches. Also, it has a center height of 2 foot 11-inch. At this size, you can fit two sleeping camp pads in the tent.

You can also choose to purchase the Coleman 4-Person pop-up tent as well which has a size of 9 feet 2 inches x 6 feet 6 inches, with a center height of 3 feet 4 inches.

You can check out the Coleman 4-Person Pop-Up Tent by clicking this link.

Product Dimension – The Coleman 2-Person Pop-Up tent has 27.2 inches x 1.5 inches x 17.2 inches.

When the tent is in the bag (which is circular), it measures 34-inches across and its 2 inches thick. The “poles” won’t go down to less than two inches.

Weight – The tent weighs 5.65 pounds.

Features of the Coleman 2-Person Instant Pop-Up Tent

Extremely Easy to Set-Up – The Coleman 2-Person Pop up tent can be assembled in ONLY 10 SECONDS.

How is this done?

There are preassembled poles that pops up into place with just a snap.

Make sure that you avoid opening this tent in a small closed space too! The tent will pop up almost instantly.

As for taking it down, you may need a little bit more time but it’ll take less than one minute. Just fold the tent, keep your straps in place, push the tent down, use your foot to hold it down and strap it.

Taped Floor Seams – Even when the floor is soaking wet, the taped floor seams are capable of keeping you dry even after a heavy downpour.

Multi-position rainfly – The tent comes with a multi-position rainfly that is capable of providing suitable amount of protection against external elements. The taped floor seams can help keep you dry even when the ground is soaking wet.

Also, the rainfly is capable of providing a good amount of ventilation too unlike most rainflies that don’t consider this aspect.

Protected Seams – The tents are also made with inverted seams which helps make the tent weather resistant especially by hiding the needle holes inside the tent.

Wind-Strong Frame – The frames for the tent are engineered to be stronger and more wind-responsive. With the redesigned poles and guy-out triangles, the tent is extremely sturdy and can withstand any obstacles.

Zipper Protection – The tent comes with a zipper cuff that is made from weather-resistant fabric which also adds protection from outside external elements to the door.

Waterproof Floors – The floors of the tent are made from welding-inspired technology which helps to strengthen the tent floor, making it more durable.

The tent will be able to help you stay dry despite a heavy downpour too.

Integrated Storage Pockets – The Coleman 2-person pop up tent comes with 2 integrated pockets where you’ll be able to keep smaller sized items.

Simple to Store – You can fold this 2-person tent to be flat, which makes it really easy to bring around and store.

Warning

No Windows – Since the tent does not come with a window, you’ll have a limited view of things when you are inside the tent.

There may be issues with ventilation too. I would suggest leaving the front door partially or fully unzipped so that the ventilation becomes much better. You don’t have to worry about bugs coming into the tent too because there are mesh liners.

Not for Intense Weather – If you are going to camp in regions which are really cold or has major downpours, I would recommend a sturdier tent such as the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx Tent.

Always be Gentle – After getting this tent, I would recommend learning how to set-up the tent gently so that you can avoid breaking the polls while taking the tent down. Check out some youtube videos such as the one below.

Also, I would recommend being easy with the zippers although the tension of the tent makes it harder to zip.

My Thoughts

Really Lightweight – When the tent is folded, it’s about 3-feet across so you wouldn’t be able to fit it into your backpack. However, since the tent is really lightweight and the carrying case has handles, you can choose to attach the tent externally onto your backpack with cable ties or paracords.

Easiest Tent to Set Up by Yourself – For setting up the tent, once you get it out from the bag it will pop up instantly.

For taking it down, you’ll need a bit of time to figure things out. However, it’ll be feasible for you to take it down yourself especially by using your foot to hold the tent down while you are folding it. easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Excellent for Single Person Camping-Trips – If you like to camp alone, this tent has enough space to fit you and your gears. Since it’s really easy to set-up as well, it’s an extra bonus point to consider.

Just get it out of the bag and bam, you are done.

Waterproof – The tent will do well especially when it’s windy or raining. There should be no leaking. The only issue is when you open the door, water may come in through the door. However, do bear in mind that for most tents they get wet around the door when people enter and exit the tent during rain.

Extremely Helpful if you Move Around – If you move around a lot with a tent, having a tent that is extremely easy to set up such as the Coleman 2-person tent would be really helpful.

Also, since the tent is light, you can just mount it on your travel backpack and move around with it.

Pros

  • 10-Seconds Set-up
  • Lightweight and Easy to carry around
  • Can withstand heavy downpour

Cons

  • Not for intense weather (too hot/ cold)
  • Requires careful set-up

5. Lethmik Backpacking Instant Pop-Up Tent

Double Layer Camping Tent – You can choose to either have high breathability by having 1 layer on or have more privacy by putting up two layers.

Warning

Wouldn’t recommend for backpacking – This tent is pretty heavy and feels quite bulky too. Hence, I wouldn’t recommend bringing this tent for an actual backpacking trip. The Automatic Ejection System does add a bit to the weight.

However, if you are camping outside your car, it’ll be suitable.

My Thoughts

Great for outdoor activities – The tent comes in a small and really light package which is extremely easy to carry around with. Also, you can easily pack it into the expandable carrying bag.

This means that it’s really suitable for various outdoor activities.

You can bring it on a camping trip, where the tent has enough space for you to store your gear. The set-up time is minimal which lets you have more time to enjoy the great outdoors too.

Or, you can bring it for garden camping especially if you need a tent that you can easily set up with little to no experience.

Alternatively, you can bring it for hiking too, since the tent is pretty easy to carry around with. This means you can carry it for mountaineering as well and set it up almost instantly.

Great for Family Camping Trips – This tent is suitable for a small sized family where it’s spacious enough and can provide sufficient comfort to everyone. It’s definitely awesome for a car camping trip.

It’s definitely excellent for camping with 2 to 3 people, including a kid. Since it has great ventilation and it’s pretty spacious, it’ll be great for at least 2 adults.

Really Sturdy – This tent has a sturdy framework which can rigidly hold the camp in place, while the L-shaped rods that comes with the tent helps affix the tent to the ground.

Easy to Keep – Besides being really easy to assemble, it’s really easy to fold up the tent and to put it back into the carrying bag.

Pretty Roomy – Generally, this tent is pretty huge and you’ll be impressed at how much space you get when you’re in the tent. It may even be capable of fitting 3 adults.

Even after putting 2 queen-sized air mattresses, you’ll still have a lot of space to put your camping gears or even fit another mattress.

Relatively easy to set-up – For most tents which are stable and solid, they require a bit more time to set-up – this tent is one of them. If you are setting it up by yourself, you will need less than 15 minutes to set it up.

If you’re setting it up with your friend, you may take less than 15 minutes.

The mechanism that makes the tent easy to set-up is the 2 shock cord connecting poles with clips on the tent.

Assembling the tent should be pretty smooth. If you’re experienced at setting up tents, you’ll be able to set-up the tent in about 3 to 5 minutes.

Rain Fly – The tent comes equipped with a rainfly which helps provide more protection against external elements and harsh weather.

This 2000mm rain fly is water resistant too, where you’ll be kept safe from external elements and comfortable in the all-round mesh fabric. Since this material is tested and proven to be waterproof, I wouldn’t worry about water seeping through when using this tent.

Also, the rain fly takes into consideration both the front and rear entrance. Plus, the rainfly has Velcro which helps make the tent water tight.

The rainfly will be really easy to open and close too because it’s equipped with a smooth zipper. Since it covers the tent fully, it’ll help keep the tent warm as well.

After fitting 2 single air mattresses, you will find that there’s little space left in the tent. You’ll only be able to keep your items at the mesh pockets.

However, there’s a good amount of head room, where even if you are 6 feet tall you can stand or move around with ease while you’re in the tent.

My Thoughts

Durable Materials – When you get the tent, you’ll be able to see what I mean by having durable materials. Moon Lence only pick the best materials from premium suppliers.

The tent has reinforced stitching which means the materials will be stronger than the cloth for most of the tents out there.

Easy to carry around – The tent is really lightweight, and you can store it in your carry bag while bringing it around too.

This makes it much easier to carry around, which is great if you want to travel light.

Since this tent is 5.2 lbs. it is considered sufficiently light for backpacking too.

If you aren’t thinking about using the rainfly, I would recommend keeping the stakes at home because they are pretty heavy. If you throw the stakes away, the tent would weigh less than 5 lbs.

Great for Car Camping – This tent is ideal for car camping or travelling in the outdoors because it doesn’t take up too much space and it’s pretty lightweight.

Great Zippers – For most tents, they are pretty difficult to close because the tent is too tight or it will catch on to some material. But these zippers are amazing, you’ll be able to open and close the tent with ease.

Backpacking for 2-person – The tent is small and light enough if you’re using it for a 2-person backpacking trip. Also, the tent’s material will be able to hold up really well against wear and tear.

Great for Kayaking – Since the tent only weighs 5.2 lbs, which isn’t very heavy, you can definitely consider bringing it on your kayaking trip.

Good for the Money – With the lifetime warranty and quality materials, you’ll be surprised at how this tent is comparatively cheap where it’s able to perform like tents that cost around $300 although this tent just cost below $100!

How to choose the best easy set up tents

1. Set up time

Usually, the easiest to set up tents are extremely easy for setting up and has a minimal set-up time.

Even in some of the selected tents, they have auto set-up system which makes things much easier for you. You’ll be able to even set-up the tent in just 10 seconds! These automatic tents will make your life much easier.

2. Size of the tent

The size of the tent you choose would greatly depend on how many people you want to cater for. There are some easy set-up tents which can cater up to 6, 8 or even 9 people in total! All you need is 60 seconds and you’ll be able to set up a tent that fits 9 persons if you have the CORE 9 Person Instant Cabin Tent.

3. Checking out the Tent Ventilation

There are some tents that comes with ground vents to help promote air ventilation. These extra features would be extremely helpful especially when the weather gets really hot and humid. Great ventilation would be useful when you’re camping in cold weather too because this helps prevent condensation.

Besides ground vents, you can look out for tents which has large doors, mesh walls and have more windows.

4. Quality of Materials

There are some tents that are made from pretty weak materials, while some of the tents are pretty solid – such as the Moon Lence Camping Tent.

Depending on your needs, you need to choose the quality of materials wisely. Some tents are just made for family camping trips while another tent may be suitable for rough treatment.

There are pros and cons which you have to weigh by yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What seasons are the tents best used for?

Most of the tents suggested are 3-season tents. They would work great either in spring, summer and fall. In winter, I would recommend going for more specialized tent that are MADE for cold weather.

There are few tents that are made with high-quality materials at a higher price-point that can withstand colder weather. However, those tents wouldn’t be able to withstand weather which is too cold.

2. What size should I get for my tent?

It really depends on how many persons are sleeping in the tent and how much space you want to leave for putting your luggage. For example, if you purchase the CORE 9 Person instant tent, the tent may only fit 4 persons comfortably if you plan to bring loads of luggage along with you on your camping trip.

Also, if one of your family members toss and turns a lot at night, you may want to pick a tent which is larger so that there’s space for him to move around when he sleeps.

3. Should I get a tent with many windows?

It really depends on what your end-goal is. If you want a tent that has really good ventilation, I would recommend getting a tent that has ground vents with a lot of windows. This would greatly improve the ventilation in the tent.

Also, windows are necessary if you like to enjoy the view outside when you’re in the tent.

There are some tents that only has limited amount of windows, such as the Coleman 2-person instant pop up tent, while some tents has more windows and are covered with mesh.

Conclusion

I hope that this comprehensive guide helped you decide which is the easiest tent to set up by yourself! After getting an easy set-up tent, I’m sure your camping trip would be much more easeful as compared to having a tent which takes a lot of effort to set-up.

I have given my recommendations accordingly too. If you want the best bang for the buck, I would recommend the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx Tent. If you want lifetime value, the Moon Lence camping tent would be great. If you want a tent with a lot of functionalities, then the Coleman Sundome Tent would be for you!
