MSR Windburner Review

MSR Windburner Review – Personal Stove System

The MSR Windburner is one of the MOST popular backpacking stoves till date. In fact, this stove is extremely well-made especially with its windproofing quality where I would consider this as one of the best backpacking stoves available in the market. It got its good name by performing exceptionally in places with huge winds and colder temperatures. It is able to perform so well because of the wind-proof and radiant burner technology which will be further discussed when we talk about its features.

MSR Windburner Personal Stove Features

Integrated System – The MSR Windburner has an integrated system which makes it a compact and an all-in-one stove. The set comes with a pot that can securely lock on the stove. Furthermore, you can treat it as an eat-and-drink mug too.

Great efficiency – I hope that the review gave you an in-depth look of how the MSR Windburner would perform. If you would like to share your experience with the MSR Windburner, you can leave a comment below!

The MSR Windburner is able to have a fast boil time because it has an efficient radiant burner and heat exchanger. This helps the stove become more fuel efficient as compared to most conventional stoves that utilizes convective heat.

With both its radiant burner and enclosed design, the stove would be able to boil water fast and even operate efficiently in colder climates.

Also, the locked-on pot has a built-in heat exchanger which allows efficient heat transfer, necessary for you to efficiently cook your meals after your hunt, hike or ride.

Windproof Performance – The stove is based on 100% primary air combustion by having an enclosed design and using an internal pressure regulator. Both the design and regulator makes the stove capable of functioning without being affected by external conditions.

Modular Versatility – The MSR Windburner comes with a customizable system where you can work with different cookware accessories. Some recommended MSR accessories include the MSR WindBurner accessory pots, MSR WindBurner Skillet, hanging kit and coffee press.

Note: You do not necessarily need to get a fuel canister from MSR. The Jetboil canisters or other canisters would fit just fine.

Boil-to-simmer control – The radiant burner comes with a boil-to-simmer control, which is really important for precision cooking.

Pressure regulator – The MSR Windburner comes equipped with a pressure regulator to allow the backpack stove to consistently perform.

Heat Indicator – There is a piece of metal that runs along the top of the burner, which helps indicate whether the stove is lit and burning. Unlike most stoves, you will be able to tell whether the stove is lit or not which helps with fuel-saving too.

Fuel Efficiency – This backpacking stove has a boils per ounce of fuel of 2.3 L/oz. To translate into layman terms, it means if we use a 3.9 oz. (110 grams) canister, you can boil 9 liters of water.

Warning

You have to use the pot supplied – Other pots won’t be compatible with the MSR windburner. You have to use the pot that is supplied. With that said, there’s no backups if anything happens to the pot unless you get a replacement from MSR.

Contains Brass that can expose you to lead – Brass is a chemical classified by California to cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harms. You can read more about this in Proposition 65’s Warning Website.

My Thoughts

High-adaptability for cooking anywhere – The MSR Windburner has really high adaptability and will be able to function in most environment.

Most backpacking stoves are not reliable in cold and windy conditions. If you want the other backpacking stoves to function as efficiently as the MSR Windburner, you will need a windscreen which usually weighs around 6 to 8 pounds.

The performance of it would be consistent, where it would be able to heat fast and be fuel-efficient too.

Suitable for Hiking – If you are hiking, you will likely be in a situation where it is cold and windy. The great efficiency and windproof performance of the MSR Windburner would be vital for cooking food and water in cold and humid conditions.

Can be used for cooking – Although the MSR Windburner is able efficiently boil water, you can use it to cook too. By equipping the backpacking stove with
